Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com Better than Letts for the average linguist and very useful for all exams I bought these for French, German and Spanish (they're identically set out) when I was in year 9, and I have to say that they have been absolutely invaluable in learning the grammar of those languages. If you know all of the vocabulary presented in these books (in small, manageable sections) then you will be well equipped for the Higher reading and listening papers but especially for the role plays and the conversation. If you want vocabulary to learn, as well as more exam questions, then go for the Revise GCSE French Study Guide (GCSE Revision) revision guides: they are more comprehensive; and for those aiming for higher grades the Letts guides with CDs will be more useful. But for every single one of my friends I would recommend these books, they are practically language courses in themselves, and the full grammar section at the back is very good, although the French the subjunctive is not covered and for German it's not clear on what the imperfect subjunctive is, or how word order should go in more complicated instances. Overall though, these books will be useful for preparation in every paper and are very easy to learn from. Another excellent product from CGP. french success at only £4.50 This book has really helped me in my study of french and makes revision much easier. Grammar points are explained simply, and this is what lets you make up your own sentences and get the top marks. the revision questions at the end of each section reinforce what you have learned and let you know what you need to go back over. all this at a reasonable price, definately worth the money. CGP GCSE French I think that this book is helpful for the very basic uses such as low level vocab and sentences. However, it doesn't explain the grammar to the more complex sentences, so it is very difficult to use the information in your own work. However, it is brightly coloured with pretty pictures to sustain your interest for a bit longer. I find this is just to cover up for the lack of information given. The only real use I found for this book was if you were writing about a very specific topic, it could help to give a few sentences that could be included. Also some of the topics can be useful for preperation for oral exams, such as lost property. Overall, I do not think that this book is worth buying, becuase although it is cheap there are better quality revision guides around, especially if you are aiming for the higher grades. An averagely helpful book Although this book was helpful in the learning and understanding of many phrases, I felt that to really help one revise GCSE it needed to give the student more space to make up their own sentances and to show how things were constructed more, rather that just dishing out phrases without the key points explained. Great book! i thought this book was brilliant! it covers various topics e.g. shopping, transport, clothes etc. the book consists of 10 chapters- this may seem like a lot but the chapters are really short(except chapter 10). i've finished using this book and i can say that french has never been easier! there was one thing about this book that really annoyed me and that was the amount of vocabulary you have to learn. but it was well worth the hassle as most of the words i'd learnt came up in the exam. i would recommend this book to anyone- be assured that you'll gain something out of revising from this book.
